The sun was surely your friend on this day! What a great shot. I have not been able to scoot across the tracks to snap a pic from that side during my numerous trips to Churchill. This angle really opens up the view of the station and VIA 693.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Yes, this station is “something else”. Such a beautiful building almost seems out of place when you arrive in a town the feels like it is ‘way up north’.
Arnold, a great picture ! It is most gratifying that today you can still photo a traditional long distance Heritage car consist passenger train complete with dome car in front of such a classical passenger train station.It’s a shame that VIA Rail doesn’t rent at least one room in the station for passengers. When you look at VIA Rail’s on-line description of this stop, it states that it is a “sign stop” and passengers must take the baggage they wish to check to the baggage car. No problem waiting for this train in the nice weather in your picture, but in pouring rain or the freezing cold, looks like the only place where to shelter is the square glass & black metal hut on the platform-doesn’t even a station sign on it, definitely no washroom and probably no heat. What a disgrace, especially when there is wonderful station next to the platform ! Thank goodness for the Dauphin Railway Museum and the tenants that rent office space on the 2nd and 3rd floors and the volunteers who cut the grass and keep the building looking so nice. The Canadian and Manitoba governments should be deeply ashamed for not providing funding to allow at least part of the former waiting room and washroom for passengers. Thank you for posting.
Thanks for your note, John. Shocking about the situation at the station, indeed. But don’t forget, VIA wants you to “Love the Way”; just so long as the VIA Elite do not have to suffer thru it like the rest of us.
