Freshly minted from the GMD London assembly plant, brand new Quebec, North Shore and Labrador SD40 units 200 and 205 are out on a test run on Canadian Pacific, seen at what appears to be the east end of CP's Windsor Yard at Tecumseh Street. The "storm lighting" in this photo is rather captivating, with part of the Detroit skyline looming in the shadows in the distance.

Both units were part of a six-unit SD40 order (QNS&L 200-205) built in February-March of 1969 by GMD. Iron ore hauler QNS&L at that time had a roster of mainly GMD GP7 and GP9 locomotives built in the 1950's, so this order was their first 6-axle high horsepower second-generation diesel purchase. They would place another order in 1971 (206-220), and SD40-2 orders in 1972, 1973 and 1975, retiring a lot of their early Geep fleet (a good number were sold to Bellequip and later Precision National for lease service in the early 70's).

200 would later be retired and rebuilt as KCS 696, while 205 would become CP 5401.
