Caption: Algoma Central #180 sits outside the relatively new shop building in Hawk Junction. This unit would be around another 5 years or so before scrapping after being involved in a wreck.
I do miss the days of the AC. The area, now under CN is more like a desolate wasteland compared to back in the times I visited in the 70s & 80s.
An article I found on-line states that this unit was lost due to a derailment in 1980 caused a rail at mile 4 being removed by section men who had been fired by the company. This was how they showed their 'appreciation'. Since I shot this image in 1985, I am thinking the date in the report was erroneous, instead of 1980 the incident probably occurred May 14, 1990.
