"Off into the Sunset". I rather like this shot which was taken off the Hwy 138 bridge just north of town if I remember correctly. Cartier 87, 75 and 76 are off into the north, destination Mont-Wright.
It would be 30 years before these big MLW M-636's would go off into their private 'sunset'; with #87 (x-CN 2331) and 76 being sold to the scrapper in 2011. The other unit lived onward, recently noted as WNYP 638.

  1. I can hear this photo. To think these lasted in regular service until 2019 and occasionally in 2020 and 2021.

Hoping the Delaware Lackawanna continues to use them for another two decades.

  2. Yeah, it was something.
Make sure you get to the D-L if you haven’t already.
    thanks.

  3. …even with an empty train going up into the Quebec hills…those Alco’s had a wonderful chug chug chug….and unreal how clean at the stack…CP’s would smoke out this type of shot…demonstrates the work quality of the Cartier Mechanical Dept.
Really something that the Cartier purchased Alco’s operated regular revenue service into the 2020′s!
