noteworthy

Based on the tri weekly scheduling and equipment cycles, it is possible this train set was in Jasper and scheduled to depart Wednesday July 24 at 12:45 MDT.

Given the evacuation order was issued 10pm Monday July 22, this may have been the train set that was stranded at Jasper during the wild fire (evening of Wednesday July 24).

more:

July 28: There is an unconfirmed report that the VIA train set was moved prior to the wild fire arriving at Jasper: 36 miles east to Swan Landing.

Further:

July 28: A Globe & Mail reporter (Carrie Tait) – on a controlled media tour of Jasper - tweeted that a VIA train was the Jasper station on the afternoon of July 28. That picture shows the VIA consist (no numbers / names visible):

F40PH facing west

baggage car (ex CP) facing west (baggage room door at west end)

Park car facing east (round end observation coupled to the baggage car)

coach with wide yellow stripe and dark blue paint along the windows), vestibule at at east end.

Possible the F40PH and Baggage were wyed at Swan Landing.

  1. So did this train set survive the Jasper fire ?
Was there any VIA equipment damaged by the Jasper Park wild fire ? Heard that the historical railway station survived, but did it suffer any damage ? Loved visiting the town of Jasper, such a tragic event; hoping and praying one day it will return to its former beauty.
