Caption: Another photo from May/88 showing the amount of work being done on the track. A lot of ties to be replaced in this scene, a lot of those old ties ended up on our golf course. Tee boxes, shoring up bunkers, etc. This picture shows the grain extra returning to Edmonton with a train of hoppers nowhere near big enough to need 4 engines. The unit at the very back is the 1002, which I believe, had spent recent time working on the west coast. Possibly it had come to Edmonton for repairs and was out on on a test run before heading back. Photo time was 14:45.

The lead 3 units worked as a threesome for 2 or 3 weeks at this time. They became one of my all time fav consists, the number boards were all done in that old style of numeral. And those numbers looked so Snappy. :^)
Nice. The new lumber will make for a better ride too.
This renewal of the track had an impact on the section dept. Although, I’m sure one is not connected with the other. After all this work was finished, that’s when the speeders started being replaced with hi-rail trucks. The section guys in Redwater never looked the same again.
Perfect!!!
