On Vancouver Island, after several years with G12 units CN 991 and 992, CN tried SW8 units at Deerholme for the runs to Youbou and down to the barge slip at Cowichan Bay. First up was CN 7152, seen here on Tuesday 1976-04-20 idling near the bunkhouse at Deerholme with a string of empties preparing for departure to Youbou.

Various single SW8s lasted at Deerholme until replaced by A-1-A-trucked GMD-1s later in 1976, and the 1000s continued until the end of service there on 1988-03-30.
