A few folks who contribute to this site were asking about GEXR 432/1 when I was with them the other day, and I've become all nostalgic. Plenty of stories are already posted here by many photographers and even folks who worked for them. After getting all nostalgic for what was a pretty (1) | damn fine(2) train to see, listen (click for sound) and photograph, with some pretty cool stuff to photograph over the years, I've pulled out a GEXR shot from the waning months of their tenure on the Guelph sub. Most of these folks moved over to CN and many are still here, while a few stuck around with GEXR out of Goderich and now either work the Goderich or Guelph Junction assignments since they expanded to GJR. The fine folks of the GEXR have really spread out and their influence on railroading in South Western Ontario shouldn't be ignored - remember GEXR was Ontario's first modern era shortline spinoff and one of the first in the country back in 1992. These folks come from a line of people who wrote the book on how shortlines should run in the modern era.
So without further ado here's a spot Metrolinx continues to ruin by putting up fencing and other garbage. Also noted is the still 20 cylinder SD45 GEXR 3054 Tunnel Motor which is now at LTEX and languishing, but Conductor Kelly in the photo as well as many of the GEXR craft are still working hard to serve our communities. A thankless job, but thanks guys :)

  1. Good times.

  2. Always love shooting the street running here. It’s a shame most angles are gone now.
