If ever there was a photo summing up commuting on the GO from Union Station in the 2000's, this would be a good contender:

GO Transit F59PH 521 pulls into the dark train shed of Toronto Union Station on Track 1 (Platform 3B in GO parlance) with the afternoon "Bramalea Flip" from Brampton (Bramalea GO to Union). The consist is coming off eastbound #260, arriving just a bit late (pulling in 16 minutes behind its scheduled arrival time of 12:48pm, probably due to grade separation work at the West Toronto diamond). We'd board it, and the train would depart as westbound #263 (the 1 o'clocker flip run to Bramalea) running a bit late, with unrebuilt "ogre eye" cab car 225 on point for the trip west.

Afternoon ridership was still pretty light on the Bramalea Flip at the time (to the point where you could enjoy an entire car to yourself for the whole trip, depending on which and where you boarded), but in a year or two things would pick up. And since it ran outside of rush hours, running the Bramalea Marathon to be first to your car to burn rubber out of the parking lot was not necessary until after 4pm.
