Interesting graffiti. Why was this done?
Lame attempt at weathering
I read it was done when it was possibly stopped at Oshawa on 528.
If only CPKC would do a “Heritage” paint scheme for the TH&B like CSX did for this unit.
As long as CP paints the nose it has my support. So far CP has hit home runs with their special paint units.
They did hit a home run. Rumour was there were a number of paint schemes proposed and only the ones approved by Mr. Creel were made. There were also proper drawings and standards for all of it so they were done as close to 100% right as possible. Let’s hope they may do some others. KCS will have some history to pull from too.
CN’s effort is welcome too, but it was much more haphazard. Rumour there is they asked certain shops who were doing work for CN already (overhauls, paint, etc) to “paint one in this scheme” with no drawings. Some did more accurate jobs than others, but at least it’s a full paint job and they turned out good for the most part. I hope more are to come.
UP was the first with their schemes – highly modified around 2005
NS upped the game with their insane program and continued to add to it. The gold standard – 2012 – 2014.
Curious are there examples of “heritage” units in the past prior to these examples outside of museums and outside of ‘old’ locomotives? The way I see it a railway that brought back a scheme for ‘heritage’ WITHOUT donating it to a museum immediately
