Other than an odd shape patch of grass running parallel to Park street, few today driving along the residential road would probably have no idea a rail line once ran there. This line was once an important interchange between CN and the old Canada Southern as well as part of the CASO’s connection to Queenston and Niagara on the Lake. By this date the line was being used as an interchange point between CN and CP the rest of the line was abandoned many years earlier. When the city of Niagara Falls paid CP to relocate its traffic out of the city, the connection here too was abandoned. This day a pair of CP GP9U’s have a decent cut of grain cars in tow as they head back to home rails and towards Welland. The two crew members are on the front porch looking for motorists not paying attention, as the train approaches Chrysler Ave.

  1. Loving the old school Niagara shots!

  2. Thanks always fun digging into the old slide collection.

  3. Great scene, Marcus. More than interchange, this was once part of the CASO branch to Niagara-on-the-Lake.

  4. Yes thanks, I included that in the cation as I didn’t realize until I did more research.
