Caption: Back in September 1993 CN completed a large-scale bridge replacement west of Paris on the Dundas Subdivision. This resulted in CN rerouting trains not only on their Guelph Subdivision, but also detouring across Canadian Pacific’s Galt Subdivision for several days. In the west, the trains would begin their journey to the Galt Subdivision through the interchange track at Woodstock then onto the CP St. Thomas Subdivision for a short stretch before reaching the Galt mainline.
During one of those detour afternoons, I left school early and my dad and I drove to Wolverton to hopefully catch a CN train on the CP Galt Subdivision. We were heading to Woodstock but made a brief stop as this had become one of our favorite spots to railfan at the time. If memory serves we actually didn’t have to wait long until the scanner crackled and a headlight came into view from the west.
Here CN 410 highballs through the east siding switch Wolverton with 2111, 2320 and 2117 just as the sun pierces a small hole through the late summer overcast. I remember clicking the shutter of my small Kodak camera as fast as I could to hopefully capture something. More than 30 years later I would say I was able to get one that was semi-decent.
