Back in September 1993 CN completed a large-scale bridge replacement west of Paris on the Dundas Subdivision. This resulted in CN rerouting trains not only on their Guelph Subdivision, but also detouring across Canadian Pacific’s Galt Subdivision for several days. In the west, the trains would begin their journey to the Galt Subdivision through the interchange track at Woodstock then onto the CP St. Thomas Subdivision for a short stretch before reaching the Galt mainline.

Here the CP Woodstock Afternoon Job with CP GP9u's 8243 and 8207 take priority as they head to the Cami facility meeting CN 392 with SD40’s 5055, 5029 and 5043 as they wait to proceed eastbound on the CP St. Thomas Subdivision on the CN-CP interchange track.

Note-I took the photo from the top of my dad's van trying to get the approaching CP train and stopped CN 392 as best I could in one frame as it was very tight.

  1. That would have been neat to capture! I’m assuming trains taking the Guelph Sub would have got on/off at London Jct.?

  2. where did they end up back on CN out east? did they end up on the galt all the way east to Toronto?

  3. Absolutely Kevin. London is what makes the most sense.

    Nice shot

  4. Thanks for the comments guys.

Yes, the Guelph Subdivision detours got on/off the CN Dundas Sub at London Jct.

@cp5756- I believe they took the Galt Sub as far as West Toronto and then got on the Weston Subdivision.
If I remember correctly they sent mostly eastbounds across the Galt Sub and the westbounds took the Guelph Sub.

  5. There was definitely a handful of westbounds sent over the Galt. Have seen shots at Galt station. This is a neat series of shots Jason.
