Caption: A westbound grain train is pictured hustling towards CN Thornton Yard in Surrey (and elsewhere in the Vancouver area possibly). It is pictured on the approach to Annis Rd. just east of Chilliwack, BC (Mile 66.3 of the CN Yale Sub). We had a car this particular weekend, so a nice Sunday drive into the mountains a bit was in order. I’m appreciative that my wife and daughter were so patient as I followed these two mainlines paralleling each other on either sides of the Fraser River. All trains I caught were the following: CN power with a solo engine up front and as a rear DPU…didn’t catch a single train with CPKC power (even though I followed the CPKC mainline). It appears CN has trackage rights on the CPKC mainline. There is another bridge called the Mission Bridge in Mission, BC where CN can return to CN rails and vice versa. I don’t know. I still don’t have the Vancouver area railway operations and lines figured out! It is way more complex than southern Ontario.
