Boston Creek. Nice rock cut. I just did not feel like climbing up onto the cut as I have done it a few times before and was not in the mood to take a chance on tripping or falling as it is getting rather overgrown in there now. So this shot is of the Noranda train returning south, and taken from near the roadway crossing.
ONR 1733, 1730 and 2123 is the power. Now normally #512 returns from Rouyn-Noranda after dark. It was so flamin' hot up there that sun kinks developed along the line east of Kirkland Lake and the train was left at Northland Park on a siding until next morning.
After the line was inspected and the #213 (Englehart to Cochrane)) had cleared the junction at Swastika, then the #512 would be ready to come down. So it gave us time to scurry over to the cut at Boston Creek.
Those who have been in this area know this road is rough. It is pegged at 80 KMH and for fun I tried to find a spot where I could actually get up to the posted speed limit without rattling every bolt out of this poor vehicle. More like 40 KMH is what we did most of the way, 6 KM drive off of Hwy 112.
The 2123 is a newby to the ONR, purchased last year and was formerly NS 2639. It is one of five SD70Ms purchased. One other, 2121, is painted up ONR colours and looks great.

  1. Oops!! That should read 05/31, not 04/31.

  2. Excellent photo Arnold.

  3. Sweet! Climb or not, it is a great spot for a shot. The drive in to get there is enough of an experience at times too!

  4. Yeah, Jazzy. That so-called excuse for a road gets an 80 KMH speed sign when some 4 lane paved highways up north only get a 90. By the time we got out of there I felt like I might have to stop and walk back and pick up car parts. It is a LOT worse than it was a couple of years ago.
