The "Village by the Grange" is late 70's mixed use office/residential/commercial development along McCaul between Dundas and Queen Streets. Part of it was built over the old TTC McCaul streetcar loop, that was reconstructed to loop inside/underneath part of the building.
But that wasn't all the streetcar content: as part of a restaurant (Applebee's) located by the streetcar loop, a pair of old Peter Witt streetcars were supplied by the Ontario Electric Railway Historical Association (OERHA, today the HCRY) to the developer for incorporation. According to the trackside guide, one was ex-TTC Peter Witt 2806, and the other was ex-Ottawa Transportation Commission Peter Witt 829. The TTC Witt, one of the last bunch in TTC service (retired circa 1965) was purchased by private owner Charles Matthews after retirement. It was in rough shape when the OERHA acquired it, likely why they let it go (the trucks and usable components were removed as parts for their other streetcars). Both of the Applebees Witts lasted into the 90's, but at some point after were removed when the restaurant location was renovated.
