Many of us shot these units on CP for their 25 or so years they were on the roster - the first time. Pretty amazing to see these units be sold to CMQ in 2015, only to come back in the CMQ purchase in 2020 and actually get repainted. This one was repainted in late 2022 at Progress Mayfield after overhaul and arrived in Canada in early 2023 and has spent time in Toronto with boarded up cab window(s) trailing with other yard engines. But now, it seems it's able to lead and was dropped off a couple days ago in Welland for the local job. I figured I'd go after Easter, but decided to give it a shot today after my family delayed our Sarnia plans by a day. This was a total crapshoot because H61 is not scheduled to run on Fridays. Luck was on my side as I arrived to mechanical finishing working on 9014 and a crew taking the units to switch the yard, after a couple shots  bolted out of town to see friends and family - it's Easter after all. While I was visiting friends I found out that 239 lifted 9014 and has taken it back to Toronto for whatever reason.. unreal.
Pictured is H61 (or whatever they call an extra) passing the Penn Central 1973 built (shared with TH&B) spartan cinder block station and yard office - which went into Conrail then fully into CP after they absorbed both railroads in Niagara Region fully. This station even survived into VIA service when the Toronto-Buffalo RDC's were cancelled in 1981. I would ride a CP passenger train with 2816 to here in 2004 and this is where we got off, so occasionally it does still see some passenger service :)

  3. Gotta strike when the iron is still hot. Been burned a few times by waiting. This is one of my favorite spots in Niagara.

  4. BTW the three tracks in the foreground:

    Closest track is the West Main track of the CASO (East main track was removed. Remember the tracks were directional so westward and eastward direction)

    Middle track is the Hamilton sub mainline

    far track is yard lead.

    Lastly, the yard office was opened in December 1972, so not 1973.
