Caption: About a year ago, I remembered seeing some old rail equipment sitting near the former Atlas Steel site in Welland, so I decided to go check it out. There were a few locomotives, a former CP caboose, and some MOW equipment. The locomotive in the photo is a Bombardier HR-412, and was in the process of being scrapped, along with everything else on site. I walked around and took as many photos as I could. Before this unit was sold to Trillium, it served as power for a failed tourist line in Mattawa Ontario.

Cool…Atlas Steels (now VASW) has been the molten steel burial ground for a lot of railway equipment
Wow, wouldn’t have thought that engine was accessible from public property. FWIW, it hasn’t been scrapped yet.
