Caption: Niagara, St. Catharines & Toronto Railway express motor 41 runs northbound passing the Thorold Water Works on the elevated tracks at Front and Regent Streets. Purchased from the Cleveland, Painesville & Ashtabula as motor 60 in 1927, 41 would leave the property in 1959 along with numerous other pieces of NS&T equipment destined for the reclamation yard in London for scrapping.

The elevated section of this line in downtown thorold is fascinating. So ahead of its time. And no signs of any of it remaining there. Now an urban wasteland of asphalt as they even paved over the 1st welland canal.

What’s the story of this car John? Curious why it has iconic status. I suspect it’s not the usual NS&T paint scheme..
When I recall the Thorold of my childhood, I remember the “High Line”* with the trestles which crossed over a number of the streets. Also near me were the tracks on Townline Road. Trains were everywhere – once upon a time.
