CP 402998 is a Jordan Type J, 4-150X spreader. It is equipped with front cab, high snow plow front blade, articulated side wings, hydraulic cylinders, and a high rear platform. It was built in 1981 and wears serial number 1489.
Awesome catch Matt!
Pow. Nice shot.
Thanks Guys.
Thanks for this great shot. It illustrates the seemingly lesser known function of spreaders. I imagine this is just routine track maintenance to ensure proper drainage.
In my railway career, I saw Jordan spreaders used for this type of work far more often than for snow clearing. Even with the heavier snowfalls of earlier decades, the spreaders didn’t get near as much use as CP’s home built wedge plows.
I also notice an SBU on the front of the spreader, indicating that it will be pulled backward at some point. That unit doesn’t lend itself to backward running.
