Some locomotive consists last for months on CN 580, while others do not. Naturally, this colourful duo only lasted two days! They worked around Brantford on this Wednesday, ran to Caledonia and Hagersville on Thursday, and I think that was it. They were quickly replaced by GTW 6425 (in CN paint) and CN 4798, which of course hung around in Brantford a lot longer. One day 1 of 2, CN 580 is shown in Cainsville with one tank car for Blastech to be relined, and six loads of lumber to be unloaded at Rembos.

  1. Nice picture Rob of interesting units, and nicely ballasted track. They must have done some maintenance lately. Question, why are the rail joints in front of GTW 6420 painted blue? Thanks for posting, John

  2. @railwayguy – a google search found a comment stating blue is painted on a transition joint to lighter rails. That looks to be the case here; the rails through the grade crossing are heavier than the rails beyond the joint.
