Caption: Not something you'd see at West Toronto today - stock cars! A cut of CN stock cars including cars 810245 and 810029 sit on CN storage track J105 off CN's Weston Sub, just north of the CN-CP West Toronto diamonds (note the southbound CN signals). White staining on their flanks was from lime used as a disinfectant to clean them.
A steady stream of these 40' stock cars handled livestock traffic into the nearby Ontario Stockyards and packing plants for decades until livestock shifted to trucks in the 80's, and many of the old meat processing and packaging facilities in "The Junction" closed or moved. In the background, one can see the ramp and bridge for Old Weston Road that once crossed over the CP Galt and North Toronto Subdivision tracks (demolished sometime after the bridge was closed to vehicle traffic). The West Toronto Pumping Station just behind the cars is the only thing unchanged in this photo today, unaffected by the grade separation project.
