I was told that when the lease expired, Trillium was to buy the unit.
I have noticed lately the people say Trillium has been renamed GIO. GIO is actually the corporate parent similar to G&W is to B & P, Ottawa valley, Huron Central, etc etc, thats my understanding!
This is correct. The paperwork used on this line is “GIO Railways, Trillium Railway” on the header.
As for buying it out… that’s quite the opposite of what people are saying. Of course that’s why we have to wait and see
Couldn’t they just re-lease the unit? Or they’ll have to lease another one. Funny, when Trillium ran the St Thomas and Eastern..it was opposite but similar. Trillium was owner and St&E was the stipulation of the railroad they were running.
Time will tell.
The paper company is now Dunn Paper not Clearwater!
Aha.. I can never remembered who owns what.
The Port Huron dunn plant closes very soon, this month
As for corporate and structure before the Trillium they were the ‘Caledonia and Hamilton Southern’

Great read and history @Stephenhost. But what was the significance of the ‘Caledonia and Hamilton Southern’? It sounds like they operated the CN Hagersville sub.
You can bet they most certainly tried to get it but lost to Raillink….
Passed by Feeder yesterday. The guys were tying down new arrival 4003 after doing some work. 1859 was next up, followed by the new SW. After this, the caboose, and finally 3502. If it’s off lease shouldn’t they be returning it?
Great observations. Lease returns can be funny business because lease companies don’t just take them back, they like to have a destination first, shipping locomotives is big money. It all depends on the contract too, as the lessee may not want the liability of hosting it.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
The GMTX 333 from Orangeville is a good example, it seems it waited for GMTX To find a new contract for it then it shipped direct. But it was “off the property” so no longer OBRY responsibility (would be GMTX responsibility and/or CP at that point)
Sometimes they linger a while.. storage costs are also a thing..
Great thread! @jamesknott..what locomotive is 4003? Any photos? @Stephenhost has GMTX 333 left Streetsville?
4003 is LDSX 4003. A photo hasn’t been posted yet. I saw it at LDS a month ago.
GMTX 333 has left, they waited to find a customer for it so it was only shipped once. (why pay twice.. it’s like 20 grand to ship a locomotive)
it’s in quebec somewhere per trace
LDSX 4003 made the run to St Catharines today!
