Caption: My early Railfaning days didn’t include too many trips to London, especially the north end at the old GMD plant. In later years I put in more effort, unfortunately the plants days by then were numbered. I remember one trip catching sight of a number of unpainted “flared” radiator housings in a back lot and thinking it was a bit of a flash from the past when SD45 made up a sizeable part of many American railroads rosters. When I found out that Union Pacific’s roster of SD70’s and the “M” variations would number 1000 units I figured they would become sickening fast even as foreign power possibly up here in Canada. I was wrong considering I haven’t caught all that many over the years compared to the endless parade of 4400hp GE’s. I really like the look of UP and CSX’s SD70M’s and wish CN had picked some up. It was a nice treat today as CP train 234 made good time as it sailed through Streetsville with UP SD70M 5159 leading one of those endless GE’s, LOL, and an ex SOO GP38 thrown in for good measure.

Nice catch. CN has SD70M-2′s, over 160 of them as you probably know.
Thanks, yes it’s the flared variation they unfortunately did not pick up.
