Pride of the Fleet....At first I thought the number was 4310 as they did such a stellar job with the stencil. Good thing we don't use trainorders anymore because this is not clearly identifiable.

  1. 49 CFR § 229.11 – Locomotive identification.

    § 229.11 Locomotive identification.

    (a) The letter “F” shall be legibly shown on each side of every locomotive near the end which for identification purposes will be known as the front end.

    (b) The locomotive number shall be displayed in clearly legible numbers on each side of each locomotive.

  2. Engine identification is an important part of railroading. The hand drawn numbering method could make it difficult to “positively identify” the designated engine when a train has been restricted by OCS Clearance.
