Having taken over CN and CP's transcontinental services the previous year,  VIA rationalized service and started combining the Super Continental and Canadian between Sudbury and Winnipeg in 1979. While the cab units haven't been repainted, FP7 1422 and an unidentified FP9 are now owned by VIA Rail. The RS10s may be the 8576 which was used on the Canadian into late 1981 and retained its maroon and gray colours until retirement.
