My home away from home for four days & nights the 1st week of August 2022 was VIA 8202 Chateau Bienville sleeping car. It brought up the markers, or in this case, the red reflective end-of-train indicator stuffed in the knuckle on VIA #693 from Winnipeg to Churchill, MB. The entire train is parked on the station track in Churchill on this August 2nd day of arrival. The consist front to back was VIA 6443, VIA 6458, VIA 8612 baggage, VIA 8137 coach, VIA 8140 coach, VIA 8515 Skyline dome/kitchen/diner, and VIA 8202 Chateau Bienville sleeping car. Classic passenger equipment, at an iconic station, in a beautiful, rugged, remote location.

  1. A greatly composed picture Paul!

  2. Great shot with the station name sign, not much of a consist but enough to handle the passenger load.

  3. Thanks for the comments guys.
That consist was more than enough to handle the 16 in coach, and 5 in Sleeper Plus class. :-)

  4. Very nice picture indeed ! Don’t get to see a good picture of a Chateau sleeper these days, don’t appear to be any on the Canadian. Nicely composed, and note the “marker lights” on the rear of the sleeper not yet covered over. Paul, were you in an upper or lower roomette, or perhaps in a bedroom ? Thanks for posting, John

  5. Thanks as always John for your observations and comments.
On my last 4 journeys on The Canadian since March 2020, there was not one Chateau sleeper in any of the consists. Manor sleepers appear to rule The Canadian.
While the marker lights remain on this car, note that the oil burning marker lamp hanger brackets have been removed and plated over.
I enjoyed the extra space in Bedroom D on both directions of my Winnipeg to Churchill & return journey.
