Those switch points will throw easily with all that oil and grease on the plates!
Some fresh sand for wheel slip just ahead of the points.
Are those locomotives tied up or in service? Seems like an odd location to leave the power.
@Paul. I can’t tell from the photo if the crew is somewhere nearby, but if the units are “tied down” with no crew, there is definitely a rule violation here about fouling an adjacent track?
Paul : One of the few times I was actually out walking Oakville Yard. Today I have my “Track Hat” on as I was part of a Cross-functional Team doing turnout inspections, specifically checking gauge at pre-determined high risk locations through-out the turnout. Cross-functional work was always a great learning experience. It was not often I took casual photos of locomotives, photos were usually taken of subject matter pertinent to my job. The locomotives in question are definitely In Service, the crew was most likely having a Job Briefing with my colleagues. As per your observation of the sand, oil and grease on the ties, this is a well used route.
Would the yard office be to the left out of frame and those are the rip tracks on the left? I used to love biking there when I was younger. Even had a trip on an SW1200RS to the ‘South yard’. I loved when you could see the yard power sitting from the QEW but now all blocked by Tractor trailers or at least when I was there last. The CP power was fun too. Thanks for this one!
Brad, you are correct. Thanks for your comment.
