This used to be a somewhat common sight, especially on this shortlines. Often I would catch them in Kitchener and Hamilton spraying the motive power down. It’s always interesting seeing a unit with most of its inners exposed and looking clean. I would imagine environmental isssues killed off regular washing as it dumped all oil and grease into the ground. GP7 700 was always a personal favourite unit on the GEXR for me, especially with the old torpedo tubes up on the roof. I like the unit so much that I custom built a 1:87 model of it. Unfortunately it and sister 900 were not great runners and often had issues. Years later I ran into the unit in the CBNS deadline in Sidney and not long after it was cut up for scrap.
