Caption: I remember taking this photo like it was yesterday! Stepping off VIA #1 The Canadian at Sioux Lookout, ON and breathing in the blistering cold fresh air, nose hairs crackling, as I walked the snow covered platform to the head end of the train. Not many passengers ventured off here even though it was a nice lengthy stop with refueling and a crew change. Those that did dare to go out made it a quick 'National Lampoon Vacation' moment, or had a 'power smoke' and got right back on board. Having made the trek all the way up to the power, I now had to make the 20+ car walk back to my sleeping car. Lovin' every minute of it. :-)

Very nice Paul, can just hear “the snow crunching” with each step and feel the nose freezing, but well worth the discomfort. Looks like 3 F40’s on this cold day. Thanks for posting, John
Yes, 3 F40′s, VIA 6446, VIA 6437, and VIA 6442. Once we arrived in Winnipeg there was a power drop. Lead unit VIA 6446 was cut out of the consist leaving VIA 6437 in the lead and VIA 6442 trailing for the rest of the journey to the west coast.
