Caption: It's 06:59 as VIA #1 departs Nakina, ON on June 2, 2022. I was up at 05:00 this morning to catch a view of some of the locations I worked at back in the late 1960's through the 1990's on the 'west end'. Other than the yard being gone, Nakina looks about the same as it did back then. Plenty of equipment around for the always ongoing track maintenance work. As seen from the dome of VIA 8500 Skyline, the Nakina station is holding up much better than the former crew hostile. Great memories riding The Canadian through northern Ontario.

A great image. A view I have seen many times, though not from the Skyline Car. When the RTC lights up that signal and #1 gets out of town, the Track Guys will be looking for Track Authority to get that Sperry Rail Flaw Detection Vehicle on the move. Quite a few other hyrail vehicles parked and at the ready to start their day, including the Signal Maintainer.
Thanks for that thumbs up on the photo! Like you, not many of my journeys to Nakina were for pleasure! There was a lot of activity at the west end of the station on this beautiful morning. CN track guys, a CN S&C maintainer, the Sperry Rail Services truck, and a REMCAN Projects hi-rail vehicle were all there waiting for access to the main. No work for me though! All I had to do for the next few days was sit back and relax as I enjoyed the cross-country trek on VIA #1.
