Caption: Unfortunately for me the first time I rolled into Sturgeon with the intent of shooting the town train station, it was about 6 years demolished. I think it came down in 1973. Instead, in its former location at the foot of Main St in town, we get this little structure, one of many of its type in the North. The section boys made good use of it, and as well it had a waiting room for those hardy enough to wait out the VIA Canadian here. I say hardy because when I was there the phone didn't work and there was no way of knowing where the train was. And it was almost always late.
In this scene the work train with CP 8738 is on the siding while the boys went for lunch. A few others showed so I guess we can call this "a working lunch". It is time to go back to work after having their fill of TIMs coffee, the outlet just out of sight on the right.
The sidekick of the day watches the proceedings from the car.
Time was winding down for the MLW RS-18 8738. By 1989 it was rebuilt to CP 1850 and eventually ended up on the WNYP.

This was painted around June 2017 and placed into service shortly thereafter on the WNYP. I manged to photograph it in the shop and broke the news as I seem to have been one of the first to find it painted. Back then you could get a release at the WNYP office and have full run of the place. Those were the days.
A great image of CP action in Sturgeon Falls, appears the Signal Maintainer was taking a break too. I always liked driving Hwy 17 between Sudbury and North Bay through the 70′s, the close proximity of Hwy 17 and CP Rail tracks was never disappointing. Sturgeon Falls was a recent stop on a northern road trip, gas, a Tim’s dark roast and then butter tarts and cinnamon buns from Chez Jean-Marc Boulangerie, then back on the road.
