Caption: The GMD-1 Resurrection was a golden time for us local CN fans, not only were the Toronto GMD-1's parked in 2015 for 3 years, which we thought was for good, they were bought back by the folks at LDS in Sarnia just in time for CN to take back branchlines and industrial operations they had given up to a Shortline in the late 1990's. It stands to reason this was why CN brought them back to life. The next challenge is finding one - this group (1412, 1437, 1439, 1444) were assigned to the Toronto terminal in the mid 2010's and remained so in the 2020 meaning their territory was Sarnia/Windsor to Belleville, but they did not make it east of Toronto the 2'nd time around. You had to know where they were assigned and pray you got one in the lead. Folks that didn't have GMD-1's in their terminal had to travel to find one - Montreal didn't see them, for example, not in recent decades. The only terminals that seemed to have them in the end was Toronto, Winnipeg and Prince George. CN also did us a favour and sent 1408 from Winnipeg to Toronto giving us 5. If you were lucky you got one leading. Sometimes there were two, and nothing was easier than the fish in the barrel Hamilton yard jobs where you could capture them in all manner of operations at slow speeds, all you had to do was go fishing and you were guaranteed to get *something*, so as long as the right leader was at hand.

I went 'fishing' on April 16 and got to Bay St as early as I could, but the CN 0700 already went down the hole and they were *early*. I had to catch up to them, and I found them behind Dofasco about to switch the interchange with the CPR, with the right leader, and I captured them framed in all the industrial infrastructure you only find in North Hamilton.

While I stand welcome to be corrected, my research indicates 1439 was one of the last GMD-1's in service on CN, it was nearly a three way tie between 1437, 1439, and 1405. In February and March 2021 GMD-1's were rumoured to have been given the axe and once they arrived in Toronto they were not coming back out confirming our fears. A few lingered on though as they would not leave the terminal until they need a 92 day inspection and 1439 was one of the lingering units. 1439 was removed from Hamilton on April 15 2021 and returned to Toronto on April 16. 1405 was parked April 19th 2021 in Winnipeg. 1437 was retired by CN in March or so (Date TBD) but it magically showed up in Kitchener on April 19, and when the crew found it they put it in their consist right away. It went on a Kitchener system tour (Stratford to Guelph etc) for two days when in the wee hours of April 23 2022 1437 was donated to the WCR for good. 1437 was the last active GMD-1 on CN as a result.
