I do really miss these days the special runs that ETR 9 did back in the early 2000’s when it was assigned to the St. Thomas Central. Between the Cayuga subdivision to the east if St. Thomas and the CASO subdivision to Shedden, the old steamer from time to time really got to stretch its legs. It’s so sad that CN wouldn’t give the museum the section of the CASO to Shedden, and even today most of the Cayuga subdivision east of Tilsonburg is gone or on the verge of abandonment. Today ETR 9 is operated many miles away up in St. Jacob’s, and is well looked after. Back in 2002 #9 ran a few specials to Delhi and back, with only one customer served in town , the writing back then was in the walls for this portion of the line, and when Trillium gave up the line years ago the last customer switched to trucks. Here ETR 9 has just run around its train at the east end of Delhi and is heading back to St. Thomas, with Delhi’s unique water tower in the distance. In 2021 a contractor finally began lifting the long out of service here and in spring of 2022 the large bridge over a creek in the west end of town was removed totally eliminating any chance of a revival of rail service here.
