Caption: Back in the day, the Newtonville, Ontario area was always considered one of the most coveted railfan locations, situated east of Toronto where both CP and CN mainlines paralleled each other for miles. On our initial trip there, the first train we photographed didn’t disappoint as well as the scenery of the area. Here CN HR616 2117 and an SD40 are seen leading a westbound train through the sweeping curve at Newtonville on July 15, 1994. CN 2117 would be retired three years later in 1997 and the all the remaining active HR616’s were retired during 1998.
