Caption: Further to Jacob Patterson's submission of a Don Jilson photo (http://www.railpictures.ca/?attachment_id=48327), and subsequent comments from various interested parties, I offer up this shot of combine CN 7210 (ex-CN 2830, exx-CNoR 1541) Class PE-73-B, 73 foot 6 inch Colonist Car, built by CC&F in 1919. I snapped this picture at Hearst, ON in the summer of 1976 while I was working in the area on a CN Regional tie renewal gang. I find it quite interesting that Brundle photo'd the same car 10 years later in 1986 at Egremont, AB.

Nice shot Paul. I may have to post Don’s other shot soon.
Thanks for posting this Paul. I do not recall seeing many combination cars in use from my Edmonton area memories. Which lead to a roster shot and interest of the 7210 in 1986. I see the journal bearings have been replaced with rollers by the time of Jacobs 1985 (Jilson) photo.
You sure have captured some great railway moments with your original Praktica 35mm camera. The journal boxes on the 7210 are looking clean and tidy. Some interesting jewelry too, in addition to the vertical grab irons on the car body on each side of the steps, there are curved grab irons on each end of the car to assist train crew with trailing end boarding on the move, these were most commonly seen on a caboose. Maybe they were an addition to combination cars operated without a caboose? Looks like the chimney cowl and the swivel-top air vent on the roof were also gone by 1985.
