Caption: I can't believe it has been more than 9 years since I first posted a colour shot of this train working its' way up Ferguson Ave in downtown Hamilton (#6836). After the initial shot, I turned and ran along the sidewalk in hopes of getting to my 4x5 Speed Graphic, which was on a tripod waiting. I lined up the shot, popped the cover on the film plate and just barely got this one off. (Didn't have a chance for a slide as well) This looks pretty good.
For me, great memories of that classic A-B-A combination on the Nanticoke steel train #725 while it lasted. In this image is CN 9169, 9196 and 9172.

The big building was Wood Alexander. It was a hardware distributor.My grandfather worked there. It is now Amity headquarters.
Nearly 2000 images posted on this site and you can still dig out a gem like this ?!! Man, that’s a deep collection you have there, sir ! BTW, the Amity/Goodwill building looks surprisingly similar today.

DAAAANG….Arnold, your photos of these old F units are by far, the best of the old A-B-A units in the old Rymal Sub. Only once did I see this lashup hauling a load of gondolas just after I moved to Caledonia. It was either 1988 or 1989. Nonetheless….always brings back my childhood seeing these venerable beauties along the Newton Sub. too at Atwood. Black and white always puts a train in a class of it’s own…and the photographer is no exception! In a class all your own….thank you again for wonderful memories!
Whoa…Todd. But many thanks. You must know I was awfully happy to get out for these when time permitted. Work kept screwing up my photograph schedule.

That would have been really cool to see. Those particular CN F-units are my favourite, and they were the ones they typically had a model of in the old Bachman train sets of the 90s (inc. my first train set when I was a kid).
@kevin Flood I too had an F unit for my first train set. Conrail though, but I did get the CN Bachman.
Story is that the roadmaster that. worked out of Hamilton at the time requested these units I can’t remember who it was or the reason for this.
Still see those Municipal Parking signs from that era around the city. Amazing image.
