Another image from Vernon. Omnitrax was famous for moving its motive power between all of its operations. Case in point is Hudson Bay Railway M420 3550 as well as HBR 2506 (a former SP GP20 rebuilt into a GP9). Trailing is a Carlton Trail GP10. The last two units also wear Central Kansas RR lettering just to confuse things even more. Nevertheless this was a colourful operation while it lasted. From what I can tell the line they ran over is still intact but not used as CN is the sole surviving railroad today in Vernon.

  1. Sure nice you got to bag some of these oldies. And thanks for finally posting. :o )

  2. So nice to finally have a decent scanner!

  3. Unfortunately I believe the rails from Armstrong to Sicamous have been lifted sometime in the last 5 years or so. Might be partially because CP to this day has trackage rights over the CN into Vernon, however I don’t think they’re ever acted upon.

Also worth noting the trackage from Vernon to Kelowna was lifted when CN took over the operation (after Kelowna Pacific RRs bankruptcy) around 2013.

Nevertheless, great shot Marcus! Very neat railway history in this part of BC, and rarely captured in this era.

  4. Thanks for the update. It’s sad, such a scenic section of track.
