Stopping at Parry Sound CP station is the Sudbury - Toronto portion of transcontinental passenger train. I note it in this manner as I am not sure if this is the Canadian or the Super Continental as there were number changes and name changes during June of 1979. Confusing.
Anyway, this southbound has VIA 1410 up front (X-CP) with CP 8580 RS-10s) and CN/VIA 1961 (B unit) trailing. An odd combination.

  1. This edition is still the “Canadian” but as you noted, it is very close to the flip to the Super Continental.

  2. Note the jointed rail.
    This is VIA #2.
Only two more days, on June 17, 1979 Parry Sound (and Toronto) will be served by trains #3 and #4 Super Continental.
