Caption: CARIBOU'S AT COOKE - Continuing eastward with four University of Toronto friends - including the late James A. Brown - to celebrate Canada's Centennial by riding Newfoundland's endangered passenger train 'Caribou', John Freyseng of Ontario was able to capture some amazing narrow gauge images. Here he photographs NF210 925 leading CN Train No. 101, the westbound 'Caribou' from second unit 911 into the siding at Cooke as Train No. 102, the eastbound 'Caribou, holds the mainline at Cooke on Newfoundland's scenic west coast. Fireman Austin Bennett keeps a close watch during its scheduled meet with the westbound 101 and once clear, Engineer Kevin Byrne will take the 919, 911 and the rest of the consist to its next stop in Corner Brook. Still wearing the CNR's most handsome paint scheme of green and gold from delivery in 1956, the 925's coat would survive until 1969 before repainting in the newer CN black and red 'Noodle' version.' More of John Freyseng's 1967 photos can be seen in my upcoming TRAINS OF NEWFOUNDLAND, to be released by Flanker Press in both hard and softcover editions on September 9, 2022.

A very nice railwayguy image. Wish I could have seen this myself, my parents weren’t much for travel when I was a child in the last years of the newfoundland railway. Love seeing the pictures.
Should grab the book when released
Thank you Stephen! Stay tuned for more of John’s work including some branchline scenes from 1967! His work is spectacular! I am extra pleased with this upcoming book.
