Caption: Nice train with lots of power up front had me giving this one chase. Unfortunately the race to get ahead of it was as intense as the race to get a shot before the sun faded off on the horizon. As a result, you see a slight motion blur on the head end. Fading light and a fast runner. I'm on the Schisler Rd overpass, south of the city, and just barely got this shot away in time.
CP 5515, GATX 7365, EMDX 187, SOO 6450, CP 5410, CR 6322 and CRL 608.
The EMDX was formerly KATY 187 Unit returned to EMDX soon after this image. The SOO 6450 was only SD40B (cabless) on the roster. CP 5410 is x-QNSL 214, (retired 2001) The CR 6322 (leased) was returned shortly and the CRL 608 refers to Conrail Leasing. So quite the variety on this train.
The location is now part of the rather quiet Montrose Spur.

Classic colourful collection! The nineties were a neat time on CP.
What a consist. I believe we had photographed the SOO B-unit in Aberdeen that afternoon as well. There was a ton of power in the yard that day if I recall correctly.
It was Hambone-bound you very likely saw it the next afternoon. Almost sunset when I shot this. I’m not sure how long it takes CP to run over and back during a day.
So it looks like I not only had the train’s direction backwards, I also had the day I was thinking of backwards. I went to my notebook from that year and it was on August 26, 1995 that both SOO 6450 and EMDX 187 were in Aberdeen yard on 522. HATX 212, HATX 917, HATX 923, SOO 6602 and CP 5410, 4216, 4240 and 5574 were also there according to my notes.
