Caption: CP eastbound with lots of power up front; always appreciated...CP 8839, 9812, 9353, 7013 (heritage) and UP 5512 was really moving and put us to the test to catch it, as it was rolling east and we spotted it while driving west. So, backtracked to this crossing. Not taking chances on going further because there were a lot of slowpokes on the highway.... In the background you can see the collapsed mountain, the infamous "Frank Slide" of 1904 in which the whole side of the mountain came down in the night and buried the town of Frank.....killing many people as well as burying the railroad. Many stories float around about this disaster, including those regarding steam engine(s) buried under what seems like incredible amounts of rock. Stunning. Photos do little justice. This disaster location must be seen in person........many of the rocks are the size of locomotives........

I’ve driven by the Frank slide. It’s an eerie sight to behold. Great shot, especially the way the sun has spotlighted the slide area.
Thats one damn pile of rock. You look over the scene and realize there are people, houses, a railroad complete with locomotives and cars and I guess horses (too early for autos) all under that rock. Never to be retrieved. Incredible.
Excellent shot Arnold!! Had I known you were in the area would have bought you a coffee.
Hilarious. I had my Sidekick with me. You would have been out for TWO coffees. )
Thanks for the comment, Joe.
