Caption: I did a double-take when I came up to this crossing. First glance made me think the government had a hand in this. After all, do they ever do anything right??
Oh, but it is just CN changing the location of the crossing gate mechanism at Nelles Road in Grimsby, as the second track was being removed between Nelles and Jordan. I just got to thinking they would take the rail up first. But what do I know?
Made for an interesting photo, anyway. :o)
(No doubt I will get some comments from some CN fellers over this)

Interesting stop block, LoL
Bet they are sorry they single tracked it now with the GO expansion plans
Future GO plans apparently call for re-installing this 2nd track when GO train service is increased , but probably many moons in the future. Of course, if the 2nd track is put back, stingy old CN won’t have to foot the bill, just like Swiss Chalet, “only us taxpaying chickens here”. And once again the crossing arms and electric box will be moved, John
The Bureaucrat freeloaders already had their big Photo Op a few years ago bragging the GO was to be started up in 2023. Well, we have a year to go, and so far………..nothing. But is that new? Nope.
The only thing be promised today for 2023 is the apparent tie in of the West Harbour station tracks at the east end into the Grimsby Sub, but will believe it when I see it. Empty promises is nothing new.
Thanks John. But I wonder why 14 or so mayors and freeloaders all lined up at St. Catharines station to brag about GO??? You’d think they would have lined up at West Harbour…… I got thinking of them all smiling and laughing and going out after for steak/lobster and the finest whiskey; then staying in Niagara’s finest hotels on the taxpayers dime and then I got myself into a bad mood. ) I’ll never learn to accept this greed.
Well guess what, if Metrolinx has its way, one day in the future they will all be lined up again when so called “all day” GO train service is extended to Casablanca (Grimsby), and then again when such service arrives at St Kitts. It’s their nature ( not all, some are good ) to indulge in a “free feeding” event. I’ll always remember that after the last run of public service on the NS&T to Port Colborne, the mayors, municipal politicians and invited guests went off to a “celebratory” dinner to feast, drink and laugh, while most of us privately mourned the end of Canada’s last interurban operation – what a shame. Just imagine if today it were an electric LRT line all the way from Port Dalhousie through downtown St. Catharines, through Merritton, along the high line to Thorold and at least Welland, it would be one busy line ! Why are politicians so short sighted ? John
Hey, guy; don’t start me off. ) I am still upset they pulled up the Beach Sub connecting Stoney Creek and Burlington. I am upset that WalMart can build stores (Burlington & the Creek) right by the railroad and so condo towers have to be built far enough away from the stations that people want to drive a few blocks and use up parking spaces. Why don’t they build the condo towers next to the tracks and people can walk to the train? Here in Grimsby, it is commercial by the tracks and the towers are on the north side of the QEW so nobody can walk to the train. Its sad, John. These bureaucrats et al; they think only of their paycheques.
