Mr Mooney. It seems common that stations ‘catch fire’. Have you ever read the book ‘The Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore by Ron Brown’? Ironically my Dad, a non railfan, bought it for me for Christmas! So sad.
No, Brad. I have not yet seen it, despite having 4 or 5 other Ron Brown books. I do know in Niagara, off the top o’ me noggin’…..lost to fire down this way…Thorold, Grimsby, Winona, Merritton…..Grimsby was electrical, I think Winona was a stove problem; the other two arson……abandoned stations are usually a good target for these destructive jerks that wander out there at night.
So in agreeance Arnold! Infamous for this was the Strathroy station. *sigh*….but until someone comes forward to have a bulletproof plan and a large truck hauling the funds….sadly, these beautiful structures go by the wayside.
Beautiful photo though….shows better times and I will keep enjoying them!
And Elora, on a hallowe’en night…..I am sure that day produces a lot of firebugs.
Strathroy was a beautiful building, and when I passed by it not long after the fire the only thing left standing was the end walls and a chimney. No idea what has happened to it now, except I would imagine the rest was removed.
