Very impressive lash up
Apparently according to Bruce Chapman, by that time the passenger maintenance capabilities at John St. had been reduced to the point that VIA had to deadhead its power and passenger cars from Toronto and Montreal for some of the more intensive maintenance work (St. Luc had the 89mph traction motors for the 1400′s for example). And CP would charge VIA for every move. $$$$$. This lasted for a number of months until it was decided to swap trains and run The Canadian to Montreal, and the Super C to Toronto.
