Where have all the standard cab six-axles gone? I haven't seen one since March. I assume most of the Dash-8s are stored, although I believe a few have been scrapped in the last year or so. Hopefully we'll see them return to service when the world returns to normal after the pandemic, however with fifty more ex. Citirail ES44ACs coming on line in 2022, the Dash-8s and perhaps even the SD60s days may be numbered. CN 331 was always a good mid-day catch on the Dundas Sub., and on this day it had C40-8 2010 and SD60 5462. It was fun while it lasted.

  1. Nice one. That’s a real catch to see two standard cabs on the mainline, let alone that they’re operating elephant style and as the sole power. I believe 331 was abolished not long after this shot was taken.

  2. Come to think of it, I’m pretty sure 331 was abolished in about January 2020. (?)

  3. Correct, 331 was abolished in January, 2020. The photo date should be 2016-02-11. I’ll get that fixed. Thanks Aitch.

  4. 331 was abolished then re-added then abolished a few times in the last decade. Surprised it hasn’t come back honestly, but now all that traffic goes on 570…

I’m reminded of the Peter Paul and Mary song similar to your introduction Rob… just not much rhymes with ‘standard cab six axles’ and it’s quite a mouthful…

  5. They might be fun to photograph, but boy they were terrible units to operate. As we used to say “its like putting lipstick on a pig” :-)
