Caption: The Credit Valley Railway name was definitely fitting considering the fact that the line to Orangeville was never too far from the Credit River and it's feeders. While the CVR also extended to St. Thomas and Toronto the original proposal actually was to have the mainline follow the Credit River all the way to Port Credit, where a connection with the Great Western Railway there would give the CVR access to Toronto. It wasn't long though before this proposal was taken off the table and a direct line to Toronto was built, but it would have been interesting to see if this had actually happened. By the end of the 1800's the CVR was taken over by the Canadian Pacific, and the line to Orangeville extended its reach to Owen Sound, by way of the former TGB. Friday December 17, 2021 finally marked the end of rail service to Orangeville and while I hoped to make it to the north end of the line especially around the Escarpment timing didn't work out too well. In the end I found it fitting to frame the train crossing the river that shared its name with the railway that started it all here. GMTX 333 is seen crossing the Credit River one last time with highway 407 in the background, closing a page in history on one of Southern Ontario's most scenic lines.

Beautiful shot and well said. What a shame.
