December in Toronto means snowy streetcar shots: TTC CLRV 4161 operates on the Rt.505 Dundas, paused at the light westbound on Dundas Street East at Church Street. This stretch of Dundas east of Yonge gets progressively sketchier the further east you go (notably around Jarvis and Sherbourne). That Comfort Suites Hotel in the background at Dundas and Jarvis would eventually get the wrecking ball a few years later, and TTC 4161 would soldier on until retirement in March 2018.

  1. They wrecked the Comfort Suites? It looks rather nice. Perhaps they should have housed immigrants in it.
    What replaced it?

  2. Replaced by Gupta Group’s Dundas Square Garden, a 50-storey condo tower. During my first year at Ryerson in 2018 I lived 3 buildings up the street and watched them finishing the construction. Pretty well every building on the east side of Jarvis from Dundas to Gerrard is on a potential condo site. A few were demolished fairly recently for another tower.

  3. Arnold: with the crazy downtown real estate prices, even some older downtown hotels are getting torn down and high-rise condos built in their place. There was another hotel to the south, The Grand, that was recently demolished.

The only hotel there safe (for now) is Filmores!
