Caption: A look behind the scenes at the work involved in fixing up an old passenger car. The Guelph Junction Express tourist train acquired 6 "Boise Budd"s from Vermont Rail System, ex-MBTA commuter cars rebuilt by Morrison Knudson (MKCo) in Boise ID from 1950's B&M Budd RDC cars. They came in rough shape interior-wise, with a lot of graffiti on the walls, windows and seats, as well as missing windows, commuter style seating, old advertisements, garbage and tickets in the electrical cabinets, and a birds' nest in one of the control cars. Volunteers, some from the Guelph Historical Railway Association and others just offering their assistance (like the photographer) spent hours with the owners of the cars cleaning, fixing, rearranging and overhauling the equipment. Here, two volunteers discuss removal of the last few seat supports, after unbolting almost all of the seats and supports aboard VTRX 103, and piling them in the corner for another group to take away. Ultimately, only 3 cars were used for the short-lived tourist train, and this car was later sold to Weber's Grill in Orillia, ON, where it currently resides.
