Caption: CPR 1401 crosses over the Parry Sound harbour at a snails pace with a 10mph slow order ahead giving us ample time to grab photos. Since this image is just screaming history, the bridge itself was completed by Canadian Pacific in 1907. The trestle itself is 1,695 feet (517 m) long and 105 feet (32 m) high with the first train passing over it in 1908. With those numbers, its reportedly the longest railroad bridge in Ontario, as well as one ( if not ) the longest, East of the Rockies ( I am sure someone will dispute this )
1401, although painted and polished into the CPR block scheme and plays the roll VERY well, has a few distinguishable features of a CNR FP9a (6541, which everyone here already knows. Some dead give aways is the bell, horn, as well as I believe the vertical grill slits have some character differences between a standard CPR FP9A and the original CNR 6541. A great picture at an iconic spot, the beautiful CPR paint scheme, the classic “A” and “B” units (can’t quite say the same for the SD70, although it’s looks good with the CPR paint scheme) with fluffy white clouds and some fall colour no less ! Thanks for posting, John
